Candidates for S.C. school superintendent to debate

ROCK HILL -- Candidates seeking the office of South
Carolina's schools superintendent will face off in a
debate in a coastal city.
The hour-long debate is scheduled for Thursday in
North Myrtle Beach during the annual State Teacher
Forum.
Winthrop University's Center for Educator
Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement says five
candidates are set to participate.
The Republicans are former Anderson 4
superintendent Gary Burgess of Pendleton, small
business owner and home-school mom Elizabeth
Moffly of Awendaw, high school history teacher
Kelly Payne of Irmo and Newberry College president
Mick Zais. The Democrat in the race is Greenville
attorney Frank Holleman.
The debate will be broadcast live at around 1 p.m.
on www.scnow.com.
The teacher forum involves all district-level teachers
of the year.
