'State of Our Schools' to be simulcast on Internet

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

COLUMBIA -- State Superintendent of Education Jim Rex’s annual “State of Our Schools” address won’t be a traditional speech this year.

In its place will be an extended, interactive interview simulcast online Wednesday by television stations across the state.

Rex will be interviewed by veteran WIS-TV anchor Judi Gatson before an audience of school principals at the Summer Leadership Conference, an annual professional development event sponsored in Myrtle Beach by the S.C. Association of School Administrators.

In addition to her own questions, Gatson will incorporate questions from audience members and from South Carolinians watching the interview and interacting in real time via a web-based “chat window.”

Stations simulcasting the 9 a.m. event via their Web sites will be WIS in Columbia, WCSC in Charleston, WBTV in Charlotte, WMBF in Myrtle Beach and WTOC in Savannah.

Although the televised portion of the 55-minute interview will end at 9:55 a.m., South Carolinians can continue their conversation with Rex as Gatson hosts an extended Internet-only chat session beginning at 10:15 a.m.
